A company based in Ohio is one of the largest health care providers in the nation. One of its facilities, located in another state, has become suspect in a nursing home negligence case. The family of an elderly woman who recently died at the ManorCare home claims that the staff’s gross negligence led to their loved one’s death.
The daughter-in-law of the deceased reportedly captured video of the woman writhing and crying out in pain without any noted response on the part of nursing home staff members. Allegedly, the woman is said to have called out for help and suffered in pain for over an hour with no assistance being given from any staff member. Sadly, the woman died approximately 30 hours after the video was recorded.
HCR ManorCare has eight branches of its company in the state of Maryland. This incident took place in the Catonsville, Maryland facility. The company’s public relations department stated that it declines to comment on events that are part of impending litigation. Reports indicate that HCR ManorCare has also been accused of providing unnecessary services to Medicare patients in another civil lawsuit.
Victims of nursing home negligence in Ohio are able to file legal claims to seek compensation for damages when negligent care has caused them to suffer injury or illness. In a case where a nursing home resident has died, immediate family members who survive the decedent may file a legal claim on behalf of their loved one when they suspect that the death was caused by medical negligence. In a successfully litigated case, family members could receive court-awarded compensation to help alleviate costs and other damages associated with their loved one’s prior medical care and subsequent death.
