Though workers may not anticipate an issue taking place while performing a job, unexpected accidents can occur at any time. Employers and employees should take the proper steps to do their part in lessening the likelihood of a serious work-related accident while on the job. If an accident does occur, workers’ compensation could potentially be awarded to injured workers or the families of workers who may have been killed in an accident.
The family of a construction worker may be hoping to find out more about workers’ compensation after the man was killed in Ohio. It was recently reported that an overpass on Interstate 75 was under construction when it unexpectedly collapsed. The incident was considered an “industrial accident” and resulted in an estimate of the roadway being closed for 48 hours.
The incident caused a semi-truck driver to suffer minor injuries as his truck hit concrete as the overpass collapsed. One construction worker was pulled from the debris and unfortunately suffered fatal injuries. The accident took place at approximately 10:30 p.m., and the man’s body was recovered at approximately 3 a.m. The age of the worker was not disclosed in the report.
It is always devastating when an individual is killed in a work-related accident. At this time, the cause of the Ohio accident is not known, and the family of the victim likely hopes that more information will be available soon. Because the man was fatally injured while on the job, it is likely that his surviving family is eligible for workers’ compensation. These benefits may be helpful in supplementing lost income and other allowable financial relief.
